We are pleased to announce that Space Shift has been selected for the “Space Product Development Grant (Solution Development Grant)” program, organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Small and Medium Enterprise Support Center. Our project, “Development of an Illegal Fishing Detection System through Multi-SAR Integration,” was officially approved for support under this initiative.

Background of Development

Addressing Global Challenges In recent years, economic losses and the depletion of fishery resources caused by global illegal fishing have become critical international issues. Traditional monitoring methods face a significant challenge: detecting vessels becomes extremely difficult when they intentionally disable their Automatic Identification System (AIS) or location signals.

Space Shift has been developing automated maritime vessel detection services leveraging our proprietary satellite data analysis technology. Through this newly supported project, we aim to further advance this technology and build a sophisticated monitoring system. By integrating and analyzing multiple satellite datasets (Multi-SAR), we will enhance our ability to detect suspicious vessels—even those not broadcasting signals—with significantly higher frequency and precision.

In this project, we will focus on establishing proprietary methods for integrating and processing data from multiple satellites, as well as significantly improving detection accuracy.

Through these efforts, we will promote the social implementation of Japan’s unique maritime monitoring solutions. By supporting relevant government agencies, local authorities, and maritime business operators in the early detection and efficient enforcement of illegal fishing, we aim to contribute to maritime security and the realization of sustainable fisheries.
