[News] Space Shift CEO Naruo Kanemoto Took the Stage at COPUOS 2026 as a Member of the Japanese Delegation

COPUOS2026

At the 69th session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held from June 10 to 18 at the United Nations Office at Vienna (Vienna International Centre) in Austria, our CEO Naruo Kanemoto participated as a member of the Japanese delegation and delivered a technical presentation on the afternoon of June 12 (local time).

Under the title “Leveraging Satellite Data and GenAI for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction,” the presentation introduced how Space Shift’s technology—combining AI analysis of SAR satellite data with generative AI—can contribute to sustainable development in emerging economies. Drawing on initiatives in Africa (a microfinance pilot for farmers in Nigeria) and Southeast Asia as concrete examples, the talk also addressed how this work connects to the United Nations “Space2030” Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Presenting at the Space4Ocean Alliance Industry Session

The following day, June 13, our CEO took the stage at the 2nd Industry Session of the Space4Ocean Alliance, an international cooperation framework for ocean preservation, presenting on the theme “Contribution to Ocean Preservation.” He introduced technologies such as ship detection and oil-slick detection using SAR satellite data and AI, and shared the potential of satellite data utilization for ocean environmental monitoring and maritime domain awareness (MDA).

COPUOS is the committee at the heart of the United Nations’ discussions on the peaceful uses of outer space. In the Global South—home to many regions that are vast in territory or lack sufficient monitoring infrastructure—expectations for the use of satellite data and AI are rising ever higher, and during these sessions we received strong interest from government representatives of many countries.

Going forward, Space Shift will continue to deepen international partnerships and advance its business toward the implementation phase, working to address global challenges such as disaster risk reduction, climate change response, and ocean preservation through the use of satellite data and AI.
